Semiotics

A theorist called sausse start there is a sign signified in everything one example of this is:
If rain is the sign then sadness or a miserable atmosphere is what is being signified
Denotation – what is there
Connotation – what it might mean or suggest
Semiotics is the study of signs used to describe anything that carries a meaning whether it’s a word, symbol/image or a sound
Media text are encoded by the producers and then decoded by the audience
Signifiers
Because of the nature we have to view signs as having two distinct parts:
The signifier which is the physical sign itself and denotations/ connotations – this is the most important thing is that signs are open to many interpretations
